12 12 GALLERY announces an open call to all artists working with any photographic process to submit entries for its Richmond Juried Photography Exhibition. Photographs taken in the Richmond, Virginia metropolitan area are eligible for entry; reference to the specific location may be in the title of the work or in an attached statement. The exhibition juror, Scott Elmquist, will award up to $500 in cash prizes, including a solo exhibition to the artist whose work is awarded best-in-show.
ELIGIBILITY Artists age 18+, working in any photographic process, may submit up to 3 images for consideration. Work previously exhibited at 12 12 Gallery is not eligible.
ENTRY PROCEDURE Entrants are asked to submit digital images ONLY either online or on CD or DVD by mailing or hand-delivering to the gallery. One image may be submitted for each work.
Preparing Digital Files. Work for exhibition will be selected and judged by high-resolution digital images. Generate a digital file of each image at a resolution of 72 ppi, with the longest dimension being 1900 pixels. Save the file in JPG format, at the maximum quality level. Label each file with the last name, first initial, and the number corresponding to the entry number (e.g. SmithJ1). Please identify images on the entry form with the title of the work.
MAILED/HAND-DELIVERED Submissions. Send or deliver images on CD or DVD with a list of images being submitted that includes, file name, work title, medium, framed work size and sales price for each image you wish to submit. Mail or hand-deliver to 12 12 Gallery, Zero E. 4th Street, #39, Richmond, Virginia by 11:59PM on Monday, January 30th. Gallery hours are 12-4 pm Friday-Sunday, but entries may be left under gallery door Monday-Thursday from 10-4:45PM.
ONLINE Submissions. In the body of an e-mail, include your name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address. In this e-mail, please provide file title, work title, medium, framed work size, and sales price for each image you wish to submit. To this e-mail you will attach the images of the work that correspond to this information. Send e-mail with information listed above to 1212galleryrichmond@gmail.com.
Entry Fee and Payment.
Entry Fee: Each entrant will pay a non-refundable entry fee of $10 (US) per image, up to $25 (US) for 3 images.
Payment Methods: Payment of entry fee by PayPal to 1212galleryrichmond@gmail.com (follow PayPal links below), personal check (US only), or money order, payable to "12 12 Gallery" and mailed to 12 12 Gallery, Zero E. 4th Street, #39, Richmond, VA 23224.
Notification and Other Conditions. ALL artists will be notified of selection status by e-mail. Images of accepted work may be retained for publicity purposes.
SALES All work must be for sale. 12 12 Gallery will receive a 35% commission on the sale of any work.
JUROR Scott Elmquist is the Photography Editor and staff photographer at Style Weekly in Richmond, Virginia, a position he's held since 1999. Style is the well known weekly publication that covers regional political and social issues, as well as arts and culture.
Scott is an award-winning photojournalist; he's won numerous Best-in-Show awards for Specialty News Publication (non-daily) Photography by the Virginia Press Association. He's also been recognized by the Virginia News Photographer Association and the Association of Alternative Weeklies.
He participated in a project documenting oil field workers in Pennsylvania and New York State, resulting in book published in 2008. He currently is working on another book, illustrating mountaintop coal removal in West Virginia.
AWARDS Cash and prizes up to $500 will be awarded solely at the discretion of the exhibition juror. 12 12 Gallery Media Director, Lynn Limon, will award a Director's Choice Award.
AGREEMENT Submitting an entry denotes agreement to the terms and conditions as stated in the entry information. Selected work must be sent ready for installation. Shipping guidelines and requirements will be sent to selected artists. 12 12 Gallery reserves the right not to exhibit work that it deems unsuitable for exhibition.
LARGE-FORMAT PRINTING, matting and framing of selected work is available at an additional cost. Printing, matting, and framing fee structure will be provided for selected artists.
