12 12 Gallery's first major collaborative show features an intriguing collection from artists Matthew Lively, Hunter Boxley, Andy Trinko, and Hillary Knause, called "Work: The Collective".
Please join us for the artists' reception on Sunday afternoon, November 16th, from 2-5 pm. The show runs through Sunday, December 21st.
This 250-piece installation will cover an entire wall in Gallery East and will be a tremendous opportunity to have your very own Matt Lively original. Each piece will be sold individually at a remarkable price.
"More like a collaborative", says Lively, as he describes the work and how these 5 artists work together. Not unlike a rock band, these artists each contribute work and add his or her own input to the final piece, based on the level of curiosity and artistic inspiration."Hunter likes to paint on my paintings", comments Lively, "but Hillary has her own body of work to present". The collaborative is only subject to a major melt down by one or more participants, which could lead to a complete disbanding.
In his spare time, Matt serves as Adjunct Faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), is a teaching artist at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) and is the owner and Art Director at Beecycle, a t-shirt company that believes "life should be savored and lived to it's fullest".
Web Maven's Note: As Matt was installing the exhibition, I asked "Why Abe Lincoln?" to which he responded, "Because he's a face, anyone's face really, and it comes with so much baggage. His face means so many things to so many people and besides, it's his 200th birthday". Oh yeah. Duh!
