Nocturnes: Divergent Visions featuring the luminous and mysterious works
of Charles Philip Brooks and Chris Semtner and Dan Coburn's compelling
works in Between Earth & Sky, continue at 12 12 Gallery through December
23, 2007.
Though Chris Semtner prefers to depict faces and Charles
Brooks paints landscapes, the two artists have found commonalities in their
divergent subjects by collaborating in Nocturnes: Divergent Visions.
Working on the same scale and format, Semtner presents glowing acrylic
paintings of faces that resemble landscapes, while Brooks uses his lush
oil-painting technique capture the humanity in moonlit landscapes and
seascapes.
With Between Earth and Sky, Dan Coburn poses several questions for his
viewers about the current state of humankind's relationship with religion and
environment through his striking and compelling photographs. Will they speak
volumes to a world facing an imminent energy crisis? Will they serve as a
measure of progress in terms of urbanization and overpopulation? Visit the
exhibition and decide for yourself!
